"Select+CT" is a Digital Media Connecticut (DMCT) podcast series dedicated to Connecticut's Digital Media industry!
Ever wondered why certain companies are more successful at campaigning than others? Or maybe why the posts rooted in activism made by your peers seem to be earning more numbers? The answer lies somewhere in strategy, strategies you can learn more about in the very first episode of the Select + CT podcast.
For example, with all the seemingly automated and robotic messaging we receive through advertisements and social media, a human touch to this kind of messaging can significantly increase the chances of whether or not that nagging ad seems clickable..
David DesRoches interviewed Mercy Quaye: Columnist and Community Editorial Board Member, and Susan Katz: Professor at the University of Bridgeport, who both shed light on the benefits of using social media to spread awareness on subjects like Black Lives Matter.
“What we’ve seen over the last 6 years of Black Lives Matter being established as a formal organization is a great shift from who’s doing the storytelling.” – Mercy Quaye
Susan & Mercy’s findings on the usage of social media for activism:
- Using digital platforms to convey a message to the general public has both positive and negative outcomes
- Advertising comes in many forms, one of which can be promoting nothing at all.
- You can even do better for your brand by letting others speak on injustices, as it shows you are willing to let people other than yourself be in the spotlight.
